What is a list poem? This poetry style is a collection of people, places, things, ideas, or even words strung together somewhere within a poem to form a list. It is not necessary for the list to rhythm, but the words used should be memorable. I find the freedom when creating a list poem fascinating. The wordplay can be wild and free similar to Indiana weather in the early spring. Therefore, in March, I plan to write a series of list poems. I will title this one Junk Shop Treasures.
Junk Shop Treasures
Army helmets,
Military artifacts,
and patches from the Marines.
Thimbles,
old quilts.
And Snow White figurines.
Cast iron skillets,
A picture of Jesus,
And Santa Clauses galore.
Sharp tools,
A scrub board,
And a doll house to explore.
Bicycles,
Singing fish
Fortune telling weight scales in white
A bear trap
An angry stuffed bear
And a million old bottle to catch the light
Vinyl record albums
A juke box
And a collection of Pillsbury Doughboys
Upside down Christmas trees
Elvis pictures and old comic books
A payphone with slots for a quarter, nickel, and dime
Clocks from every era because we are obsessed with time
One of the favorite things Rooster and i love to do is visit junk shops to look for treasures.
