What is a list poem? This poetry style is a collection of people, places, things, ideas, or even words strung together somewhere within a poem to form a list. It is not necessary for the list to rhythm, but the words used should be memorable. I find the freedom when creating a list poem fascinating. The wordplay can be wild and free similar to Indiana weather in the early spring. Therefore, in March, I plan to write a series of list poems. I will title this one Mo Joe Coffee House.
Mo Joe Coffee House
Antique piano with guts exposed
Illuminated by a red light
Stain glass windows
Bust of Winston Church Hill
Black and white picture
Of the Eiffel Tower
A globe of the world.
Steam punk lamps
Made of plumbing pipe
Two halves of a bicycle
Hung on opposing walls.
The smell of dark roast coffee
Tickling my nose
Copper Moon add
Above the counter where the magic
Is made
A woman plays guitar and sings
Accompanied by a man plucking a fiddle
Twenty-six black open umbrellas
Suspended from the ceiling with wire
An American flag
With pictures of fallen heroes
Mo Joe bleeds on Fire Arts Studio
People paint on plaster
Long into the night
Listening to music
And drinking coffee
The perfect blend of
Creativity and caffeine
Stary, Stary Night by
Vincent Van Gogh
With a mutt dog thrown in
To keep things interesting

This sounds like a wonderful and idiosyncratic place. I especially like your line: “With a mutt dog thrown in
To keep things interesting…”
