What is a list poem? This poetry style collects a list of people, places, things, ideas, or even words strung together somewhere within a poem to form a list. It is not necessary for the list to rhythm, but the words used should be memorable. I find the freedom when creating a list poem fascinating. The wordplay can be wild and free similar to Indiana weather in the early spring. Therefore, in March, I plan to write a series of list poems. I will title this one Farm Supply Store.
Farm Supply Store
Chopped firewood outside the door
Metal firepits for sale
Next to colorful yard chairs
Bags of fertilizer and grass seed
Stacked on a concrete floor
All at bargain prices without fail
Twenty-five pound bags of animal feed
Yellow, blue, and grey planters and bags of soil
A giant windmill standing tall and proud
Next to the work gloves and boots
Whiter socks, t-shirt, and blue jeans
Wire wrapped in a spindle or coil
Christian music played on the store intercom loud
Guns in a glass case riffles along the wall ready to shoot
Camouflage gear in shades of browns and greens
Rows of seed packets waiting for soil
Fishing poles and lures and hooks
Spring chick chirping to be set free
Dailey essentials you can purchase in bulk
Tractor batteries lined up in a need rows
A henhouse and chicken raising books
Deep animal water troughs past the knee
Chicken feed and the birds that squawk
Garden implements, racks, and hoes
Trinkets at the checkouts to tempt you to splurge
A rooster key chain or candy bar if you have the urge
