After a recent thunderstorm, I saw a rainbow in the sky. It wasn’t an impressive rainbow. Most of the people around me didn’t notice it. Still, I thought it was beautiful. A promise in this time of trouble everything was going to be alright. So, I wrote a poem. I hope you enjoy my prism of light.
Rainbow
There is something about a rainbow after a thunderstorm.
A signal the tempest has passed and now you’re free from harm.
A promise of deliverance,
After the raging violence.
The lightning flash and the thunders roar,
Have moved on to another shore.
It’s appearance more than a magician’s shady trick,
Of light bouncing and bending through raindrops thick.
More than red, orange, yellow, green blue, indigo, and violet
Glowing against a dark sky placed by the hand of an invisible pilot.
A promise of deliverance,
After the raging violence.
The rainbow is a symbolic part of our culture. God placed one in the clouds as a covenant between Him and the earth. Leprechauns hoard pots of gold at the end of the colorful ribbon in the sky. Dorthey longed for a better life somewhere over the rainbow. In these days of Covid we can use a little faith and hope.
