In June, I plan to explore writing the Acrostic Poem. I’ve played with this form of poetry in the past. I don’t know how I came up with the idea. It must have been a word experiment for me back in the day when I was playing with poetry. The definition of an Acrostic Poem is the first letter of each line should spell out a word or phrase vertically. This word or phrase plays the role of a theme or message. Also, this message can appear in the middle or end of the poem. Back in the day, I didn’t know I was participating in a style of poetry. My coming across the Acrostic poem design became a clever attempt at wordplay. My Acrostic style of poetry for today is called Alive and Kicking.
Alive and Kicking
After a year of hype and danger
Living is still a legitimate option for me
Ironic twist to an evil plot I couldn’t foresee.
Valhalla rejected the soul of a stranger
Escaping an earthshaking disaster with human debris
And here I am still breathing
Nauseated by the condition of the world,
Deaf to duplicity and words misleading.
Kindness is hidden behind empty acts.
Infectious propaganda minus the facts
Canceled culture on my television.
Kleptomaniacs with a quick revision
Igniting fear and mass anxiety
Negating my basic right to make a choice,
Grappling for my rights, stealing my voice.
