In June, I plan to explore writing the Acrostic Poem. I’ve played with this form of poetry in the past. I don’t know how I came up with the idea. It must have been a word experiment for me back in the day when I was playing with poetry. The definition of an Acrostic Poem is the first letter of each line should spell out a word or phrase vertically. This word or phrase plays the role of a theme or message. Also, this message can appear in the middle or end of the poem. Back in the day, I didn’t know I was participating in a style of poetry. My coming across the Acrostic poem design became a clever attempt at wordplay. My Acrostic style of poetry for today is called Live Long and Prosper.
Live Long and Prosper
Live long and prosper
Inspire us by a life well-lived
Valant dreamer born to wander
Evidence you survived and thrived
Long days and pleasant nights
On this road of toils and frights
Never doubting and filled with hope
Grasping grace, a slippery slanted slope
Another day to earn your daily bread
Nonsense dangles like a thick thread
Doubt doesn’t belong inside your head
Prime yourself to seize the day
Resolve to rise above mediocrity
Open doors and clear the way
Spread truth and breath free
Pretend the skies are always bright and blue
Erase the times they turned stormy grey
Rest from your labor when the day is through
