I took up the challenge this year to make a blog post every day. At first, it sounded like an easy task, but I soon discovered it more challenging than I ever imagined. For part of the year-long adventure, I explored different styles of poetry. I decided to revisit many of these styles in November. NaNoWriMo takes up most of my time during this month. Plus, the weather turns cold, making it hard to go on an adventure unless Rooster and I decide to visit our baby chick in New York City. Sometimes I get a hunger for the road. Christmas is right around the corner. I wrote this blitz poem because this is the time of year when I like to snuggle in bed where it is warm. I call it Food When Chili.
Food When Chili
Making a pot of chili
Making fall’s comfort food
Food to warm the inside
Food to comfort the soul
Soul of a gypsy
Soul needing spice
Spice of chili powder
Spice of onion and peppers
Peppers blended with tomatoes
Peppers combined with meat
Meat of your choosing
Meat seasoned to taste
Taste of comfort
Taste held in a spoon
Spoon of silver
Spoon handed down
Down from the past
Down from my mother
Mother with the recipe
Mother who is gone
Gone from this world
Gone to a better place
Place with streets of gold
Place beyond the pain
Pain of cancer
Pain without relief
Relief from this world
Relief from fear
Fear of the future
Fear of the cold
Cold weather comfort
Cold and wet
Wet outside my door
Wet moisture outside
Outside is so dreary
Outside makes me weary
Weary of the weather
Weary of the times
Times of hostility
Times of persecution
Persecution by a disease
Persecution to make me freeze
Freese my fingers and my toes
Freeze the tip of my nose
Nose to sneeze
Nose to smell
Smell the aroma in the kitchen
Smell the smell of chili
Chili
Kitchen

I simply like this part, especially, as I enjoy comfort food. For the times when disease persecutes, I’m sorry.
This is wonderful!
Thank you.
