I took up the challenge this year to make a blog post every day. At first, it sounded like an easy task, but I soon discovered it more challenging than I ever imagined. For part of the year-long adventure, I explored different styles of poetry. I decided to revisit many of these styles in November. NaNoWriMo takes up most of my time during this month. Plus, the weather turns cold, making it hard to go on an adventure unless Rooster and I decide to visit our baby chick in New York City. Sometimes I get a hunger for the road. Christmas is right around the corner. I wrote this blitz poem because this is the time of year when I like to snuggle in bed where it is warm. I call it Blessing and Thanks.
Blessing and Thanks
Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving blessings
Blessings of health
Blessings of family
Family gathered around the table
Family happy together
Together again
Together through rough weather
Weather harsh
Weather dreary
Dreary year
Dreary outlook
Outlook framed by a pandemic
Outlook forecasted to be severe
Severe with death and dying
Severe forecast amidst the benediction
Benediction given with grace
Benediction you can’t replace
Replace with words uttered in fear
Replaced with a cumbersome mood
Mood of thanksgiving
Mood that can’t be replaced
Replaced by echoes from the past
Replaced by the New Normal
Normal that will not last
Normal that can’t be an illusion
Illusion because we forgot
Illusion because of what used to be
Be before the plague
Be before the constant nightmare
Nightmare of lockdown
Nightmare before isolation
Isolation behind four walls
Isolation completely alone
Alone with a TV
Alone is not how humans should live
Live to rejoice
Live to break free
Free to make a choice
Free to have a voice
Voices lifted in praise
Voices uncommon these days
Days to gather together
Days to return to family
Family eating at the same table
Families giving thanks
Thanks for one another
Thanks for the blessing of a new day
