I’ve never been good about keeping a journal. It all boils down to consistency. There are days when I skip making an entry. Life can crowd out the time I need to write down my thoughts about a day’s events. I’ve also been reluctant to pose as an expert on the writing process. If I knew anything of value about writing, my work would already be in print. I went out on a skinny limb of a tall in 2022 when I shared my 365 days of thankfulness. The exercise forced me to put myself out there with my soft belly exposed. Thank you for joining me on my journey in the written word. Therefore, I plan to keep a journal in 2023 to document my progress. I will call Entry 72: Moving on to Franny and Zooey.
Note: I consider editing an important part of the writing process. Editing is where all the artistry happens.
My morning writing before I started Entry 72: Moving on to Franny and Zooey
I got through my morning pages. I’m dragging my feet on this Amazing Buchanan and the Best section. The writing taking place now requires concentration and adding detail about something I can’t call on experience to reproduce. I’ve never spent time on the bayou at a fish camp. I have to stop and do research because I need to add detail to the old plantation house to do a good job of world-building. I can add these intricate touches on the next walk-through of this book.
I’m dragging my feet when it comes to poetry writing these days. Word Daddy, where have you gone? Throw a little magic my way. I could use your help.
The book I am currently reading right now and Entry 72: Moving on to Franny and Zooey
I started reading J.D. Salinger’s Franny and Zooey. The universe started giving me subtle hints to read this book. The title appeared in a number of movies that I watched. My eye caught a glimpse of this book sitting on the shelf of a used bookstore where I like to go, so I bought it. Until recently, I thought that Salinger only wrote The Catcher in the Rye. The reason being that it was his most famous work.
Franny is joining her boyfriend, Lane, at a Yale game. I’m not far into the book, but Lane seems like a big bore. He likes to talk about himself a lot. Franny is unhappy but doesn’t want to admit it to herself. The story told from Franny’s point of view hints that she will experience an emotional crisis. This story seems to revolve around upper-class people. Most stories in the world of literature focus on these types of characters.
What I’m listening to right now and Entry 72: Moving on to Franny and Zooey
I listened to the Dave Matthews Band Busted Stuff while I wrote this morning.
The thing I am most thankful for at this moment.
I am thankful that the snow that fell yesterday melted today.
This old lady says
I am glad I’ve moved on from Anna Karenina. It was such a tragic story that it consumed my reading time throughout February. The snow melted like snow always does. I am happy there are some consistent things that you can count on in life.
