I’ve never been good at keeping a journal. It all boils down to consistency. There are days when I skip making an entry. Life can crowd out the time I need to write down my thoughts about a day’s events. I’ve also been reluctant to pose as an expert on the writing process. If I knew anything of value about writing, my work would already be in print. I went out on a skinny limb in 2022 when I shared my 365 days of thankfulness. The exercise forced me to put myself out there with my soft belly exposed. Thank you for joining me on my journey in the written word. Therefore, I plan to keep a journal in 2023 to document my progress. I will call this post Entry 142: Big Pink is the Mood Today.
Note: I consider editing an important part of the writing process. Editing is where all the artistry happens.
My morning writing before I started Entry 142: Big Pink is the Mood Today
Morning pages came early here in the big pink. I wrote about a pink room, so a common pastel theme seems to be running through my mood today. The changes I’ve made while editing Amazing Buchanan and the Beast have upped the suspense and cost for everyone in the book. Amazing feels like she’s been betrayed by everyone in her life. This reality is hard for a person with trust issues to deal with, which leads to her making a foolish escape attempt. Will accepts the curse, but his closeness to Amazing unexpectedly motivates him to regain control of his life.
I wrote my first set of Epitaph Poems, but I could use for Word Daddy to send a spark of inspiration in my direction. That muse has a bad habit of whispering an idea into my ear, and then he takes off for parts unknown. I realize he might have a bad case of spring fever, but come on. Be the muse. Certain duties come with the job. It’s not polite to leave a writer hanging.
The book I am currently reading right now and Entry 142: Big Pink is the Mood Today
I reviewed the movement and Suspense section of Elizabeth Lyon’s Manuscript Makeover today. This book must be read slowly to catch all the author’s advice. My goal this year centered around learning as much about editing as possible. I’m finding this book so helpful.
What I’m listening to right now and Entry 142: Big Pink is the Mood Today
The Band’s Music From the Big Pink fit my pink mood today. I placed it on the CD player and let the music flow through my head. You can’t get any better than playing with words on a laptop, sitting in a big pink house, and listening to The Band perform music from the big pink.
