Entry 154: One Stop Light on the Highway

I’ve never been good at keeping a journal. It all boils down to consistency. There are days when I skip making an entry. Life can crowd out the time I need to write down my thoughts about a day’s events. I’ve also been reluctant to pose as an expert on the writing process. If I knew anything of value about writing, my work would already be in print. I went out on a skinny limb in 2022 when I shared my 365 days of thankfulness. The exercise forced me to put myself out there with my soft belly exposed. Thank you for joining me on my journey in the written word. Therefore, I plan to keep a journal in 2023 to document my progress. I will call this post Entry 154: One Stop Light on the Highway.

Note: I consider editing an important part of the writing process. Editing is where all the artistry happens.

My morning writing before I started Entry 154: One Stop Light on the Highway

Editing has taken so much of my day that I feel myself slipping behind. Plus, Rooster and I have been going outside to play. Amazing Buchanan and the Beast is so much better now as I go over each chapter word by word six or seven times before I consider them finished. I’m not finding the grammar flaws I thought might be there. That is a good thing. I am adding more heat and intensity to every scene. Moving the action forward made a big difference in the flow of the story.

The book I am currently reading right now and Entry 154: One Stop Light on the Highway

I finished Willow Rose’s Say You Love Me. The hurricane shows up, and the family ends up in a shelter, where the story ends. There were a few twists I didn’t see coming. I am unsure what to read next, but I have a few Jane Austen books hanging around the house. I might hang out with Jane for a while. I’ve read Pride and Prejudice and Emma, but I;ve never finished the three left on the bookshelf

What I’m listening to right now and Entry 154: One Stop Light on the Highway

I am hanging out with Counting Crows this afternoon because I mentioned I might yesterday. I put on “This Desert Life” and rocked out to the tunes.

The adventure Rooster and I took yesterday and Entry 154: One Stop Light on the Highway

We climbed on the bike again and traveled to a town about 20 miles away. We sat in the combined restaurant and gas station and listened to the old farmers at the liar’s table talk. It’s the sort of place that is two miles long with one stop light on the highway. I think that might be what I call my next Free Verse Poem. It would make a good title for this post.

I am the author of Saving the Hen House. I didn't know when I started it would turn into a series. I love to ride motorcycles, the blues, my family, and going on adventures. This old hen rocks.

  1. I think you would like Persuasion. Jane was a bit older when she wrote it and it has a more mature feel to it. Her protagonist is older than the main characters in her other books. But I love all her books!
