Entry 183: A Few Lines Rambling in My Head

I’ve never been good at keeping a journal. It all boils down to consistency. There are days when I skip making an entry. Life can crowd out the time I need to write down my thoughts about a day’s events. I’ve also been reluctant to pose as an expert on the writing process. If I knew anything of value about writing, my work would already be in print. I went out on a skinny limb in 2022 when I shared my 365 days of thankfulness. The exercise forced me to put myself out there with my soft belly exposed. Thank you for joining me on my journey in the written word. Therefore, I plan to keep a journal in 2023 to document my progress. I will call this post Entry 183: A Few Lines Rambling in My Head.

Note: I consider editing an important part of the writing process. Editing is where all the artistry happens.

My morning writing before I started Entry 183: A Few Lines Rambling in My Head

I spent the morning working on chapters 36 and 37 of Amazing Buchanan and the Beast. I also took another look at the prologue and made a few changes. They were needed due to a particular habit Grace developed during this book’s editing round. The Chandler family’s maid and cook is famous for eavesdropping. I also did a rewrite of the conversation between Grace and Chad. I added a new development that ups the stakes of the story.

I’m still not back in the swing of writing poetry. I could blame my muse, but this is not Word Daddy’s fault. I could blame it on summertime blues, but I don’t have a bad case of angst yet. It’s more like hesitancy to take up the task again. A few lines are rambling around in my head. Maybe they might amount to something once I try to put them down on paper.

The book I am currently reading right now and Entry 183: A Few Lines Rambling in My Head

The situation is coming to a head in Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility. Colonel Brandon visits Elinor and offers to give Edward a position once he is ordained. Things are getting confused because both John Dashwood and Mrs. Jennings think the Colonel wants to marry her. She still loves Edward, and he has a thing for Marianne. Edward is now free to marry Lucy since he now has an income. But will he? I think this is the big question. The reader doesn’t get many glimpses of Marianne in this story section.

What I’m listening to right now and Entry 183: A Few Lines Rambling in My Head

Rooster is playing an instrumental blues station in the background. I’ve listened to it today without placing a CD into the stereo. There is a chance that I am developing a few lazy habits in my old age.

I am the author of Saving the Hen House. I didn't know when I started it would turn into a series. I love to ride motorcycles, the blues, my family, and going on adventures. This old hen rocks.

  1. Hmm… I start to mix your Buchanan’s story with Sense and Sensibility, with some beautiful effect with the women characters more modern and stories more dramatic–just in my imagination right now. And probably some of your characters bear a little uncanny similarity to people around you.
