I’ve never been good at keeping a journal. It all boils down to consistency. There are days when I skip making an entry. Life can crowd out the time I need to write down my thoughts about a day’s events. I’ve also been reluctant to pose as an expert on the writing process. If I knew anything of value about writing, my work would already be in print. I went out on a skinny limb in 2022 when I shared my 365 days of thankfulness. The exercise forced me to put myself out there with my soft belly exposed. Thank you for joining me on my journey in the written word. Therefore, I plan to keep a journal in 2023 to document my progress. I will call this post Entry 125: The Big Excuse.
Note: I consider editing an important part of the writing process. Editing is where all the artistry happens.
My morning writing before I started Entry 225: The Big Excuse
I spent the morning rewriting another chapter of Amazing Buchanan and the Beast. This exercise is important because I repeated some of the stuff that became clear in previous chapters. The editing process will take me back to chapter 39, and I will listen for mistakes. It should take a week for me to catch up with myself. That is the big excuse for why finishing this book edit takes forever.
I wrote another Golden Shovel Poem today. There might be enough time later for me to work on another. My writing time seems to be falling into two different categories. The trick is to find the time to invest in making the quality of the work worth the effort. I need to post, which might take up most of my time.
The book I am currently reading right now and Entry 225: The Big Excuse
Edith Wharton’s The House of Mirth appears to be a romance, but I feel it will turn into a tragedy before I get to the end. Judy Trenor has put distance between herself and Lily because of Gus. Lily spends more time with others in New York City’s high society. She poses in a tableau vivant in a plain white dress that highlights her beauty at the home of Wellington Bry. Selden says he loves her, and she brushes him aside.
What I’m listening to right now and Entry 225: The Big Excuse
I put the 20th Century Masters, The Millenium collection. Who would have thought Steppenwolf would have a CD with their greatest hits included in that collection? If you had asked me that question in 1970, I would have said you were crazy. Rooster likes to rub in the fact that he was them playing live at the Orange Show.
