I’ve never been good at keeping a journal. It all boils down to consistency. There are days when I skip making an entry. Life can crowd out the time I need to write down my thoughts about a day’s events. I’ve also been reluctant to pose as an expert on the writing process. If I knew anything of value about writing, my work would already be in print. I went out on a skinny limb in 2022 when I shared my 365 days of thankfulness. The exercise forced me to put myself out there with my soft belly exposed. Thank you for joining me on my journey in the written word. Therefore, I plan to keep a journal in 2023 to document my progress. I will call this post Entry 250: Taking a Break.
Note: I consider editing an important part of the writing process. Editing is where all the artistry happens.
My morning writing before I started Entry 250: Taking a Break
I spent time posting today. I get back to editing Amazing Buchanan and the Beast tomorrow. It’s nice to get ahead. Rooster and I plan to quit early. Today is perfect motorcycle weather. We need to take advantage of it because summer is ending. The cold and the snow will be here soon. We still aren’t done with the apartment next door. I’ve already missed my editing goal. Everybody needs to play sometimes. This should be a short post. I am taking a break.
The book I am currently reading right now and Entry 250: Taking a Break
I didn’t get much reading done due to the above-stated reading. I am enjoying The Golden Apples by Eldora Welty. June Recital centers around the relationship between the piano teacher and her gifted student. Miss Echart is a German living in rural Mississippi during the WWI. People are suspicious of her strange ways. Virgie Rainey is a promising student. Her teacher believes she will become famous. Everyone else knows that will never happen.
What I’m listening to right now and Entry 250: Taking a Break
I listen to Counting Crows August and Everything After. The name for this band comes from an English nursery rhythm called One for Sorrow. It stems from a superstition of counting magpies. These birds are part of the crow family.

Gotta love motorcycle weather! Taking a break always helps get us out of a funk from the norm.
