I’ve never been good at keeping a journal. It all boils down to consistency. There are days when I skip making an entry. Life can crowd out the time I need to write down my thoughts about a day’s events. I’ve also been reluctant to pose as an expert on the writing process. If I knew anything of value about writing, my work would already be in print. I went out on a skinny limb in 2022 when I shared my 365 days of thankfulness. The exercise forced me to put myself out there with my soft belly exposed. Thank you for joining me on my journey in the written word. Therefore, I plan to keep a journal in 2023 to document my progress. I will call this post Entry 258: Covered Territory.
Note: I consider editing an important part of the writing process. Editing is where all the artistry happens.
My morning writing before I started Entry 258: Covered Territory
I moved through four chapters of Amazing Buchanan and the Beast this morning. Things are sounding good. I made some minor changes. These chapters will be reviewed several times before I finish the editing process. It sounds like I’ve covered this territory before because I have. Repetition is an important part of editing.
A few Golden Shovel Poems were written yesterday evening. I might write a few more today, but I am about to have a busy afternoon.
The book I am currently reading Entry 258: Covered Territory.
The Wanderers is the last short story in Eldora Welty’s The Golden Apples. This addition brings the happenings in Morgana full circle when Kathie Rainey dies. The first story, Shower of Gold, centered around Snowdie MacLain and the dead woman. Nothing like funerals and weddings brings lost relatives and gossip out of the woodwork. Snowdie laid Katie out for burial. This story even gives us a glimpse of the characters who have died on the cemetery trip. King MacLain appears. He came home to Snowdie when he got old. He suspects he might be the next person put in the ground. Virgie wants to leave town but can’t seem to make herself do it.
What I’m listening to right now and Entry 258: Covered Territory
I put a couple of Eagles CDs on and reminisced about my teen years. I put on Desperado and The Eagles Greatest Hits.

I was reminded of Amy Lowell. I read her work in the past and decided to explore her poetry for a while. Therefore, this new poem will be titled Early Autumn.
