Entry 281: It is as It is

I’ve never been good at keeping a journal. It all boils down to consistency. There are days when I skip making an entry. Life can crowd out the time I need to write down my thoughts about a day’s events. I’ve also been reluctant to pose as an expert on the writing process. If I knew anything of value about writing, my work would already be in print. I went out on a skinny limb in 2022 when I shared my 365 days of thankfulness. The exercise forced me to put myself out there with my soft belly exposed. Thank you for joining me on my journey in the written word. Therefore, I plan to keep a journal in 2023 to document my progress. I will call this post Entry 281: It is as It is.

Note: I consider editing an important part of the writing process. Editing is where all the artistry happens.

My morning writing before I started Entry 281: It is as It is

I had a busy morning today. First, I didn’t take long to finish the short story I added to Tecumseh City Limits. Then, I opened Chicks Gone Wild and polished it for a while. It seems like that editing job is never finished. I might have solved the Word issue I’ve had for several days. If it doesn’t freeze by the time I finish writing this post, I will know I’ve made progress.

I wrote several Golden Shovel poems using W.B. Yeat’s The Second Coming. To say that the poem has a dark meaning would be an understatement. I like the images he creates with his word choices and can’t help being influenced by this poem. Maybe it’s the dark time we live in that helps me relate. I normally attempt to be more optimistic, but it is what it is.

The book I am currently reading right now and Entry 281: It is as It is

At least I have the comedic story of Eldora Welty’s The Ponder Heart. Although, I think it is about to take a dark turn. Bonnie Dee dies the night she agrees to allow Uncle Daniel to come home, and he is charged with her murder after the funeral. I am not far from finishing this short book. Then, I will move on from Eldora Welty.

What I’m listening to right now and Entry 281: It is as It is

I listened to the blues station Rooster has playing in the background today.

What I Learned from Participating in NaNoWriMo #4

I started participating in NaNoWriMo in 2014 because of a dare. Someone was planning to try the 50,000 words in a month challenge and dared me to participate. I didn’t think the word count was achievable, but I also thought I had nothing to lose if I tried. I barely made it over the finish…

The Heart Thief

In high school, I had a young teacher straight out of college. She came up with the idea to have us study song lyrics as modern poetry. We’d pick the words of a song and analyze what the songwriter was trying to say. I thought it was a cool thing to do at the time.…

Entry 339: My Brain Needed a Rest

Keeping a journal has never been one of my strongest pursuits. I find it boring talking about myself for an extended period. This year, I wrote blog entries telling the tales about the things I’ve encountered along my writing road. On this writer’s journey, I’ve run into bumps and got stuck in ditches, and sometimes…

I am the author of Saving the Hen House. I didn't know when I started it would turn into a series. I love to ride motorcycles, the blues, my family, and going on adventures. This old hen rocks.
